Velko LLC ("we", "us", "our") operates Velko, an AI-powered nutrition tracking application available on iOS and the web.

This privacy policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our service.

Account Information

• Username, email address, and password (stored as a bcrypt hash — we never store plaintext passwords)

Profile Data

• Date of birth, gender, height, weight, activity level, dietary preferences (e.g., keto, vegan, paleo), and food allergens

Meal Data

• Photos of meals you upload
• Text descriptions of meals
• AI-generated nutritional analysis (calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, sodium, etc.)
• Meal timestamps and categories

Activity Data

• Exercise type, duration, and estimated calories burned

Weight Tracking

• Weight entries, goal weight, and progress history

Device Information

• Push notification device tokens (if you enable notifications)

Authentication Data

• If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email from those providers. We do not receive or store your Google or Apple password.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Provide AI-powered nutritional analysis of your meals using photos and descriptions
• Generate personalized coaching insights and morning briefings
• Track your caloric intake, macronutrients, and dietary goals
• Send push notifications (when enabled) such as meal reminders and streak alerts
• Send transactional emails (password resets, weekly reports if opted in)
• Improve and maintain the service

4. AI Processing & Third-Party AI Data Sharing

Velko uses Anthropic's Claude AI to power its nutrition analysis, coaching, and insight features. When you use these AI-powered features, certain personal data is sent to Anthropic for processing.

Data Shared with Anthropic (Claude AI)

• Meal photos you take or upload for nutritional analysis
• Nutrition and calorie data including daily intake, macro breakdowns, and meal history
• Body metrics such as age, gender, weight, and height (used to personalize recommendations)
• Eating patterns and history including meal timing, streaks, and weekly trends
• Dietary restrictions and allergens you have configured in your profile

Data NOT Shared with Anthropic

• Your name or email address
• Payment or subscription information
• Your exact identity or account credentials

How Anthropic Processes Your Data

• Anthropic processes your data solely to generate AI responses for Velko's features
• Anthropic does not use your data to train their AI models
• Anthropic provides data protection measures equal to or exceeding our own standards

Your Consent

Before any data is sent to Anthropic, you are asked to review and agree to AI data sharing within the app. You may review this consent at any time in the app's Settings. AI-generated results (calorie estimates, macro breakdowns, coaching tips) are approximate and should not be treated as medical advice.

• Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers in the United States (us-west-2 region)
• Passwords are hashed using bcrypt before storage
• All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS
• Session tokens expire after 30 days of inactivity
• We follow industry-standard security practices to protect your data

7. Data Retention

• Your account data and meal history are retained as long as your account is active
• If you delete your account, all associated data (profile, meals, photos, activity logs, weight history) will be permanently removed within 30 days
• Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for analytics

You have the right to:

• Access: View all your personal data within the app
• Correction: Edit your profile information, dietary preferences, and meal entries at any time
• Deletion: Request complete deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us
• Data Export: Request an export of your data by contacting us
• Opt-Out: Disable push notifications, email notifications, or any optional data collection at any time in Settings

Velko is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
